Nova Ion 5
The Nova Ion 5, just like its predecessors, was going to fit into the know well-known category of low aspect high performance paraglider designs. This incredibly successful concept was first brought to market with the Mentor 2, when Nova showed the world just how much performance it was possible to get out of an easy to fly low aspect ratio paraglider. The Nova Ion 5 had to be an improvement on the Ion 4 but as one of Nova’s most sold gliders, this was a bit of a hard act to follow. The Nova Ion 5 is more an evolution than a brand new design.
The first thing to do was to reduce the brake pressures slightly as requested by pilots of the previous model. Handling is further improved with the reshaping of the wing tips but this also results in a higher level of passive security right across the speed range. New technology has also significantly reduced the weight of the glider resulting in a wing that is playful, responsive and direct. As manufacturers continue to use this lightweight yet tough fabrics that are becoming available to them, it is possible that the specific lightweight versions could disappear altogether. Like most manufacturers these days, Nova is using their Air Scoop design to increase passive stability, give a more stable glide when accelerated and a decrease in the stall speed. All the new improvements result a paraglider that handles better, has more security at all speeds and enjoys a slightly better overall glide than the Ion 4.
Note: The Nova Ion 5 is delivered with standard risers but speed brake risers are available at no extra charge. These allow you to control the wing with the rear risers when on using the speed bar. If you require them with your new glider, just add it to the notes during checkout.
The Nova Ion 5 is said to be close to the maximum performance that is accessible to a talented new pilot but this paraglider is not only for beginners. The Nova Ion 5 is aimed at a large spectrum of pilots who are looking for high performance together with great handling and won’t have to be worrying what the wing is up to in the air. This makes this an excellent cross country machine but with a level of stability that is really going to help the pilot when things start to get rough. To prove the point, the previous Nova Ion 4 is the first ENB rated wing to fly a 300km FAI approved triangle. Very impressive. The new Nova Ion 5 is even more so.
Summary: Nova Ion 5. Performance and ease of use for everyone
